Bob was here visiting from out of town today, so he joined us along with Mally for dinner. I had planned dinner yesterday, thinking Jay would be over, but he’s out of town. This wasn’t an ideal menu for guests (too much in-kitchen labor just before dinner) but it worked out okay. The fish and potatoes were good, but the big hit was the amaranth polenta. It turned out kind of like a porridge, very flavorful with an interesting texture.
- Grilled Halibut with Smashed Fingerlings and Tomato Butter
- Chive and Pine Nut Dip with Sourdough Toasts (Gourmet, June 2005)
- Amaranth Polenta with Wild Mushrooms (Whole Grains Every Day, Every Way, p. 223)
Wine:
– 2005 Sonnet Tondre’s Grapefield Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands, California). Good – a lighter style Pinot. We have one more bottle of this in the cellar.
– 2005 Williams Selyem Precious Mountain Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast, California). This was our first bottle of Precious Mountain, and was also good – like most of the Williams Selyem we’ve had so far.
