Julia Child died almost exactly five years ago today (August 13, 2004), just two days shy of her 92nd birthday. She would have been 97 today, so in honor of Julia, tonight’s dinner is all from The Way To Cook. And not surprisingly, everything was really good. My favorite part was braising the garlic cloves in cream, for the mashed potatoes. I also love this salad, and so did Larry. I chose the chocolate almond cake for desset bcause it was the first French cake Julia ate – and it was prepared for her by her co-author on Mastering the Art of French cooking, Simone Beck.

What a wonderful meal!
