I did something unusual today and made lunch for myself. Not a sandwich or a wrap or something quick, which is usually my solution when it’s just me at home for a meal. And I went decadent today. Rich, creamy macaroni & cheese (really rich!), done on the stovetop so it’s pretty fuss-free. Macaroni and cheese isn’t something Larry likes a whole lot – it’s okay once in a while. But I grew up on Kraft (and it’s still the standard I hold all mac & cheese to – twisted, I know) and I just love it. And this one is pretty good.
Then I made ice cream. And I ate some. I’ve posted about this ice cream in the past. My favorite ice cream base is the one from Ciao Bella, but hands-down this is my favorite ice cream. I don’t make it a lot, but our friend and neighbor has a yard full of the most wonderful lavender, and when it’s in bloom I pluck it with abandon. I use local-ish (Marin) milk and cream and pick up honey from the farm that’s three miles away. It’s not the most traditional flavor, but it’s wonderful and tastes like the start of summer.
