I’m still infatuated with Plum Gorgeous which I reviewed on Cooks&Books&Recipes earlier this month. As local produce becomes available at the market, I’m inspired to thumb through the book to see what I can make with what’s in season. Figs are in full swing. Larry and I will both eat figs, although I probably like them more than he does (I’ll eat them raw). They’re not something I search out. Larry says he likes them best wrapped in bacon.
This recipe is really simple and while it was good, I think I’d make a couple of changes: first, I’d steep the lavender in the honey to extract the flavor, but then I’d strain out the buds. I’m lucky to have a neighbor with lots of gorgeous lavender that I pilfer all summer long. The second change would be to cut way back on the amount of wine (or even eliminate it). I think the alcohol competes with the flavor of the figs. Find the recipe for the figs here.
