I love scones, but it turns out I don’t particularly like meaty scones. Bacon is good and all, but it doesn’t make everything better. I like a variety of types of scones – from a light, delicate cream scone, to a hearty oat scone. They’re all good. And it’s fine with a bit of flavoring (berries, citrus).
The dough for these scones is more of a light cream scone type, but adding in gruyere and bacon makes it a bit heavier. And neither of us really liked them. I think the bacon is overpowering. I just baked off a few of these, and the rest went into the freezer. I suppose they’ll serve as emergency scone supplies – something everyone needs, right?
