I’m on my annual quest to harvest and use up as much of our neighbor’s lavender as possible. She’s got several hundred plants, and this year, we’ve got two hives stationed next to her house. The bees are going nuts over the lavender – I could stand there for hours watching them, but then it might seem like I’m stalking the neighbor.
When the beekeeper showed up with the hives (from Sunset Magazine!), I brought some of this honey lavender ice cream over to share. I didn’t use my regular Lavender-Honey Ice Cream recipe, since I wanted to try the one from Bi-Rite. I’ve had this flavor at the creamery, and it’s delicious. Mine wasn’t great – the flavor was okay, but I didn’t think the lavender was prominent enough. And I had trouble with my eggs, which resulted in a slightly grainy texture. Next time, back to my reliable, delicious standard.
